I started fly fishing at the age of ten, that was 45 years ago and I’m still at it.  Since then I’ve fished all over Maine, northern Quebec and the Golden Triangle of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho.  I’m a Master Maine Guide and a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Casting Instructor.  Not long after I started fly fishing I started fly tying and I still do that as well.  I tie all of my own flies and supply many more specialized flies to my clients.

Because I do love fly fishing Highlands Guide Service is primarily a fly fishing service.  But we go beyond that.  We are fully equipped for deep trolling, spin fishing and camping.  Our lakes are filled with lake trout, landlocked salmon, brook trout and large and smallmouth bass.  Trolling with downriggers for salmon and lake trout is great sport right here on Thompson Lake where I live.

Maine has an abundance of rivers, streams and large deep cold lakes.  It also has over 424 wild brook trout ponds that are considered treasures and 174 of them have been designated “Remote Trout Ponds”.  This restricts vehicular access and development.  These ponds are also restricted to Fly Fishing Only (FFO) in the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Rule Book.  Many of these ponds produce brook trout in excess of 3 pounds with an occasional trout over 5 pounds.
